New website!

Please note that as of now all information about Woking & Runnymede Health Walks can be found on our scheme’s page on the national Walking for Health website https://www.walkingforhealth.org.uk/walkfinder/woking-and-runnymede-health-walks

On the new site you can still download a printable copy of the walk programmes, but you can also access an interactive up-to-date diary of events – you can even click in advance to say you’re planning on attending!  In addition to this, you can click on each walk for more details as well as a map of the exact start location as well as updating your walk registration form thus eliminating the masses of paperwork:)  From the national homepage of the site there is a wealth of information & resources for walkers too.

If you have any issues about this, please get in contact.

Spring Walk Programme is out!

A full month ahead of time, the next walk programme is ready to download! This covers April – June. You can download it by clicking this link: Runnymede Spring programme April – June 16 (or from the ‘Resources/ Forms/Programmes’ tab).

Please remember that all dates (including handy location maps) are found on our page on the national Walking for Health website here – you can even register your attendance ahead of time! I am trying to encourage folks to use that website as the main source for information (and as a consequence will be the most up-to-date).

I look forward to Springtime walking with you!

The Winter walk programme Jan – March

The new winter walk programme (Jan – March 2016) has landed and is ready to download!

Click  Runnymede Winter programme Jan – Mar 16 for regular walks (max 90 mins) Click Starter Walks Winter prog Jan – March 16 A5 (max 30 mins).

Remember that you can always keep up-to-date by clicking on our page on the national Walking for Health website here. This includes a map of the starting point of every single walk 🙂

Next walk is the 29th (tomorrow!) not the 30th as written in some printed programmes.

Congratulations to those of you who have spotted the ‘deliberate‘ mistake in the summer programme with relation to our next walk ‘Woodham & Row Town Ramble’ from Bourne Valley Garden Centre! In the printed programmes the date was down as 30th September (which is of course Wednesday!). Just to confirm, that should have read 29th, ie: Tuesday. Apologies for any confusion.

New Autumn walk programme is out!

Hi all,

A full 2 weeks ahead of time the new walk programme for Autumn (Oct – Dec 15) are out. You can download a copy by clicking here!  Alternatively there will be printed copies available from the walk leader. The programme actually includes the first walk of January 2016 too. I hope this programme provides a variety of old favourites as well as some new routes to keep things fresh. With the onset of wetter weather, this season can be quite challenging in terms of planning accessible routes so I hope that these go down well.

Please note that the walk on the 27th October is as yet unconfirmed, I’m hoping to do the Cobham Loop (which was the first route I led for the Runnymede walks!) but need to check a few things out first. I will obviously let you know asap. Along the same lines, the route for 3rd Nov is ‘TBA’ but the meeting point is confirmed as our usual at the River Bourne Health Club, Chertsey.

A date for the diary is Wednesday 9th December which I’m hoping will be our annual festive walk followed by a lunch at Virginia Water. However please note that this location is still not confirmed as I am currently still in negotiations with the pub. I’m hoping to be able to have more info in the next week or so – so watch this space!!

I am hoping to get the programme out into as many places as possible so if you know of a good place (GPs/ library/ shop/ notice board etc) please let me know and I can give you extra copies to drop off. Many thanks to those who ‘stepped up’ to help the cause last time around 🙂

I willl not be at the next walk from the Bourne Valley garden centre next Tuesday(29th) but will leave you in the very capable hands of Martin & Joe.

I look forward to walking with you all soon!

Tasha’s new email address

As many of you are aware I have been fighting a losing battle with my IT which has resulted in me receiving no emails for the past few months. Firstly, apologies if you have sent me emails in that time and were wondering why I hadn’t responded – I promise I’m not ignoring you!! As a result, I have admitted defeat and now have a new email address: tasha@nextsteps.me.uk

Runnymede Starter walks in August cancelled!

Unfortunately due to staff shortage (aka Tasha going on holiday!) we’ve had to cancel the Runnymede Tuesday morning 30 minute starter walks in August. The affected dates are: 11th August – Chertsey & 25th August – Addlestone.

Please note that thanks to the support of our trained volunteer walk leaders, the Tuesday afternoon 90 minute regular walks on those dates will still go ahead as planned.

Apologies for any inconvenience – they’ll be back for September!

A forced change to this Tuesday’s walk route

Sorry for the late notice folks but after a weekend walk recce of the route to Chertsey Meads which is in the programme for this Tuesday (16th June) afternoon I’m afraid I’ve had to make the decision that this route is just not accessible. There are a number of reasons behind this but the photo of the footpath below may give you an indication as to my decision!! As much as I love ‘getting close to nature’, I think this may be a little too close!

Fear not though – there’s plenty of other routes from this start location so it certainly won’t stop us walking!!

I hope to see you there

Parking arrangements for Tuesday’s walk from The Old Crown pub

Hi all,

The starting point for this Tuesday’s walk is The Old Crown pub, Thames Street, Weybridge KT13 8LP. The pub does have a car park although it is fairly small and it is important that we leave space for other patrons who may have mobility issues. I’m therefore asking that if you are planning on arriving by car that please try your best to find alternative parking. There are some on-street options as well as another small free car park just past the marina on the corner (adjacent to the Weybridge Ladies rowing club) – Here’s a link to a map: https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=z8YtYX6t88Co.kHTWjFinusQg If you do park here, we can always meet you en route as it’s only a 3 minute walk from The Old Crown.

If you’re coming on the bus, here’s a map of the bus routes: 436, 451 459, 461 and it’s a short walk from the bus station by The Ship Inn in Weybridge: http://new.surreycc.gov.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0019/9325/Chertsey,-Addlestone,-Weybridge-Map.pdf

Any problems on the day, just give me a call on 07473 404 962 and I can always give you a few other alternative locations!

Savill gardens free entry

It’s been brought to my attention that Savill Gardens have free entry until the end of February. Given that we are due to be meeting there for a walk this coming Tuesday (10th Feb) it seems a little silly not to make use of this opportunity (I’m always a sucker for a freebie!). Therefore we’ll start with a shorter-than-normal walk around the surrounding area (between 1.5 – 2 miles) and then have a coffee break and head into the gardens (it’s about 1 mile to go all the way around). This will enable you to spend as much time as you’d like in the gardens themselves.

Please note that whilst the gardens are free entry, the car park charges still apply (free for first 90 mins).
